![]() ![]() I loved the protagonist of the Bone Garden, aptly named Irréelle (' Unreal'). Spooky, scary, perfect for a camp cabin or a sleepover story sharing. What a flight of imagination! A truly original story. Recommended for those looking for a light fantasy/magical realism tale. This was a great little mystery, filled with magic and the macabre. What is she trying to make, what is all her research for? And why is she so obsessed with finding an unmarked grave? Suddenly she is finding out secrets about Miss Vesper. So Irreele flees, and in doing so meets two others like herself. When Irreele’s clumsiness finally pushes Miss Vesper over the edge, she threatens to ‘unmake’ her. Her life is spent collecting bone dust from the graveyard known as The Bone Garden, which Miss Vesper uses for her creations and research. She lives with Miss Vesper, the only companion she has ever known. She is slightly misshapen and therefore awkward. ![]() Irreele is made from bone dust and imagination. You are a figment of my imagination, tethered here by the finest thread.” “Remember, my dear, you do not really and truly exist. Certainly not as creepy as I expected from that ghoulish cover! ![]()

Milton uses a number of ways to illustrate a person’s virtue, and one of them is by showing how ‘bright’ they are. The audience never really gets to see God throughout the book the only thing the author says about Him is that He is very bright, or that He is a huge light, hidden away in some far off place. Perlstein’s overarching thesis, tying together two parallel narratives involving American society and Nixon himself, is that Richard Nixon masterfully recognized, exploited and magnified cultural divisions which then persisted long past his presidency. ![]() Divided into four broad sections (corresponding to the national elections in 1966, 1968, 19) this book explores social trends and unrest deriving largely from Vietnam and racial tensions. Readers will quickly discover that “Nixonland” is more a cultural and social history of the United States than a biography of Nixon. Perlstein is currently working on a fourth book in this series on America’s political and social fabric. Perlstein’s most recent book “ The Invisible Bridge: The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan” picks up where “Nixonland” ends. His first book “ Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus” explores American culture in the 1960s. Historian and journalist Rick Perlstein’s widely-praised “ Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America” was published in 2008. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It does not know who will win the World Series or whether your wife is having sex with your neighbor.
